Please remember to use those decals to keep birds and other wildlife from flying into your windows.

Quote of the Day

We recently had a leaflet posted through the door. A group of older residents who were petitioning to stop a large data centre being built nearby. The leaflet was created using AI so I guessed they missed the point …

Mystery Photo

Took this yesterday on our usual walk along Cleethorpes promenade. It's the whaletail but what is that above it? No clue. It should have been just the river Humber and the sky, as the next photo shows.

Are those icebergs on the horizon? Or clouds? But they're not there a few moments later...

Same view, moments later, a little blurry.

The punters on Youtube don't always appreciate our highbrow material – but they jumped at this one. Wonder why?

This Week in Entertainment

Some tips for your screentime.

Awix went to see Digger, starring Tom Cruise. He writes, among other things:

'Putting all this sordid talk of financing to one side, one thing that makes Digger somewhat noteworthy is the fact that it is Cruise's first non-running role since American Made in 2017.'

And:

'Complicating the act of writing about Digger is the fact that the film incorporates a major twist, or misdirection, which the advertising for it doesn't even allude to, and which respectable movie hacks

The first oil well in Titusville, Pennsylvania.
were barred from mentioning in their official reviews of the film. Unfortunately it's really hard to get to grips with the film without being able to talk about this, but as it seems to be tanking anyway I guess I can get away with it. Alejandro Inarritu can come round to my house and tell me off if he wants to. But anyway: SPOILERS INBOUND.'

So if you want the real low-down on this much-talked-about-but-little-seen movie, check out Awix's review at Cruisin' for a Diggin'.

Common Seadragon, a little seahorse.

Your Editor, on the other hand, has been watching the small screen and recommends a new Netflix series called Below:

This Newfoundland-set limited series is well-worth your time. The land- and seascapes alone will knock your socks off. There are giant icebergs and drunks in small boats. You've heard of cactus-plugging? Iceberg-plugging is even more dangerous. And that giant blue eye in the water doesn't bode well…there's an ecological message, too. And nobody mentions Herman Melville, which is a big relief. Any movie that is set on the Atlantic coast of North America and avoids mentioning Melville is in my good books.

The accents are amazing (most actors are from Newfoundland). The locals make tourists kiss a fish, of course. Everybody's up on their folklore and who is that sea-hag? The music is terrific. Shawn Doyle shows up and chews scenery, as expected. There's a cute dog (yes, it's a Newfie). What's not to like? Broaden your horizons: enjoy some seasonal spookiness while learning about one of North America's more magical places. If it's a big hit, maybe we'll see more of this and less boring drivel.

  1. I have got it lined up to watch but still ploughing through Resident Alien series Two (sixteen episodes and I'm finally up to number fourteen). As for Digger, Tom Cruise was in the UK to advertise the film recently. He may not be running but his character is still trampling over everybody and everything else just to get his own way, even if it's not Mission Impossible
