The Hooverville Hexagon: Car Show Issue

We'll have fun, fun, fun, till the old folks drive the T-birds away…

Where Are We?

by DG

Yes, citizens of Hooverville*: it's that time of year again. You know, when somebody turns on the time machine – which inevitably malfunctions, shattering our little piece of paradise into random time zones. Close to the courthouse it appeared to be about 1927 all Sunday afternoon. Suitable music was playing.

View from behind of parked cars from the 1920s, with the courthouse in the background and blue sky with puffy clouds over all.

*Apologies to the Borough of Clarion, Pennsylvania: Long ago, we borrowed your town for fictional purposes. But we come in peace: we just liked the layout. We even published a book based on our made-up adventures. We wish to point out that Autumn Leaf Festival occurs every year in autumn and is well worth a visit, so put it on your calendars. This year's festival continues through 11 October. Its theme is 'Liberty, Legacy, and Leaves.'

Vintage Show-Off

We thought the Orange Blossom Special was a train, but here it is on four wheels in front of the print shop (also vintage).

A 1930s car with white running boards and orange chassis labeled the Orange Blossom Special, parked on the street in front of the old print shop.

Some of These Vehicles Have

Been Around for Quite a While

So that's why we can't find any skeletons at the Walmart. We saw several driving cars.

Where Are the Motorcycles?

A sign that says Watch for Motorcycles with a logo of a motorcycle in the Pennsylvania 'keystone' outline.

The version your correspondent got from knowledgeable locals was that the bikers got a better offer over in Franklin. The ones that were there appeared to be hanging out at the Koyia Express. They had a hankering for some Japanese cuisine.

Bye-Bye Till Next Year

And then they all drive off and we're back to the 21st century, alas.

Beat me, daddy, 8 to the bar,
