Learn to appreciate a potato.

Your Daily Warning That

Halloween Is Coming

Have you got your ghosts in a row?

Various Halloween tchotchkes on an outdoor shelf: little witches and goblins and such.

Art Appreciation:

SashaQ's Surreal Potato

Artist's Statement

DG: How did you make this?

SQ: I cut a potato on a black chopping board! When the potato juice dried, it made this pattern.

DG: Wow, it looks like an abstract or surrealist painting. I can see faces in it.

SQ: Yes! I liked how abstract it turned out. I didn't see faces at first, but can now.

DG: Sorry.

A surreal image featuring white and black spaces. The terminally pareidolic will see faces. Or bunny rabbits. Or whatever.

Nature Spot of the Day

Niagara Falls, as seen by Galaxy Babe's son Allan this summer while he was following the footie players around.

Niagara Falls, with mist flying up.

Hamburg waterfront, with tall buildings.
Hamburg Housing:

An Architect's View

Who's building where, and what?

Crane and tall buildings

They have a large area in Hamburg where they build modern housing. There is for instance one area at the water where they have removed old buildings, but to remember the history they left the old cranes for moving wares intact. To make the buildings floodproof there are waterproof locks at the windows on the ground floors (mostly businesses) which can be closed when the water comes.

Hamburg Birds

Special for those seagull-loving British readers.

One thing that surprised me about Hamburg was that there were fewer seagulls than I expected, but there were lots of geese in the parks!
