The Hooverville Hexagon: Less Talk, More Photography

There Isn't a Train He Wouldn't Take

(as long as it's on the Isle of Wight)

by Bluebottle

Here are some photographs taken in July of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, operating before the nationwide ban on steam. The UK is in a period of drought, with no rain since May, which has raised the risk of wildfires.

About That Lunar Eclipse…

by FWR

On eclipse night, FWR managed to snag…a beautiful video of pouring rain.

He writes: literally the next shift...

A photo of a brilliant full-moon sky with dotted clouds and the enormous words Bloody Typical.

Daytime Picture

by DG

When the shadows are like this I think of Friedrich Dürrenmatt's description: Die Sonne schien grell und die Schatten waren wie abgezirkelt.

(The sun shone harshly and the shadows were sharply defined.)

That man could find meaning in the everyday better than anyone.

Potted plants cast sharp shadows on the farmhouse front porch, framed in a grid made by the uprights of the wooden porch railing. The sun is bright and the shadows very sharp.

  1. Steam trains and water. Makes sense. Hosepipe ban too. No wonder the fire brigade can't put out fires either. Small heath? Probably the big heath got burned down. Don't be in doubt, UK's got a drought. Ah the poetry of small things

  2. Great videos. Typical indeed about the Moon putting on a lovely show the day after the eclipse! Fascinating seeing the same scene from a slightly different angle! https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0Oy0i2btvml0QmbYCoZiQkQYrmU3nyCL7Bbrk0htmC7lUr2-3QncnN06lITi0HLLRhFtqZfuPkUGzfDrutcSb5MXJPh_Lot6w-gpKS5-XhA6fR8x50CHJOotTtscF3HC2U_GEYZZYuMbGI-xfcSXi3evr94eRJgcaACdaBvMhs6eBiCfM_IHmpO2eTgc9/s1600/post_SQ_full_moon_280826.jpg
