The Hooverville Hexagon: How Does Your Garden Grow?

Writers check in with reports on the nature front.

Planted Courgettes, Got Melons

by Superfrenchie

Little melons, green, hiding under big leaves.

Can you find the baby melons?

My brother-in-law planted courgettes, and these grew instead. We suppose they come from melon seeds that made it into the compost heap last summer. SF.

Mrs Hoggett's Garden of Surprises

by Mrs Hoggett

Editor here. Mrs Hoggett can't talk because she is too busy canning. The sunflowers are nice, but they're for the birds to eat. The green beans have been canned. You see that lo-o-ong pepper down in the lower left-hand corner? It's been canned, too, thanks to Farmer Hoggett's bravery in tackling hazardous materials.

A new cage, not yet fully furnished.

P built it into two simple storage room shelves which he put back-to-back and closed on all sides.

The budgies now live free in the room because nothing can stop them anyway; we have a small shop-bought cage in case one has to be separated for a certain time and today out newest chick finally left its nesting box, so the remaining 1/4 of the old cage can be disassembled and we can put up new things for them on top of the shelves, etc. Tavaron

A Laugh a Day Keeps the Sadness Away

by DG

'Use the word adroit to describe the Administration's actions,' said the sycophantic newsdesk editor. 'No,' said the writer, wrinkling her nose. 'Why not?' 'Because it's dominancist: droit means right. I'm lefthanded. I'm tired of the sinister/adroit innuendos.' 'Besides,' she added, 'those knuckleheads couldn't find their heads with both hands and GPS.' Image: Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell in 'His Girl Friday'.
